Japanese Maple Laceleaf 'Red Feathers' High Graft 5 Gallon
Acer palmatum dissectum
'Red Feathers' is a very slow-growing, dwarf, weeping variety. Its very delicate, lacy leaves transform in color throughout the season, they emerge a bright crimson hue, deepen to a dark burgundy, and return to a vivid red in the fall. A great choice as an accent, container plant, or in foundation plantings. Japanese maples make excellent understory or part shade landscape specimen, provide year round interest, and can be planted near Black Walnut trees. They are rabbit resistant, and prefer moist, rich, slightly acidic but well-drained soil. Combine with Azaleas, Hosta, and ferns. Plant in well-drained, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Little pruning needed; shapes itself nicely. Remove dead branches or trunk suckers any time. Feed early spring and mid-summer with a slow release fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Benefits from winter protection.
