Lilac 'Katherine Havemeyer' 7 Gallon

Lilac 'Katherine Havemeyer' 7 Gallon

Syringa vulgaris

Lilac is a classic, deciduous, multi-stemmed shrub or small tree plant family producing wonderfully fragrant panicles of flowers in spring over medium green, ovate to heart shaped foliage. Some species bloom early, others middle, and late spring. 'Katherine Havemeyer' is a variety of common or French lilac that produces large panicles of double, lavender-lilac-pink blossoms with an intoxicating fragrance in the middle of the Lilac blooming season. Outstanding as a specimen plant in the landscape and highly valued in cutting, cottage, pollinator, and fragrance gardens. They make good natural hedges in sunny borders. Plant in well-drained to moist, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Prune in spring immediately after flowering to control size, and remove stray shoots or damaged limbs anytime. Rejuvenate by removing one third of the oldest stems over 3 years. Feed early spring and mid-summer with a slow release, multipurpose fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Plant with Roses, Boxwood and Coneflower.
