Hostas, also known as Plantain Lily, are one of the easiest-to-grow shade plants for the landscape and container garden. 'Blue Cadet' is a compact, mounding plant with attractive, blue-green heart-shaped foliage. Abundant spikes of lavender flowers bloom in summer. Plant in well-drained to moist, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Deadhead spent flower stems for neat appearance. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring or fall when necessary.
